Replying to a discussion in the Legislative Assembly on a custodial death in Jalgaon, Patil said, out of the 625, 155 police officials were from Mumbai.

He said, sometimes the state government has to pay full compensation to police officials, if they are acquitted by

the court.

He stressed the need for educating police officials of doing away with third degree and adopting scientific methods of gaining evidence. The government plans to organise workshops for this purpose.

The issue of the death of the 22-year-old Vinod Savkare in Bhadgaon in Jalgaon district on July 22 was raised by Chimanrao Patil (Shiv Sena) and Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse (BJP).

According to them, police say that the boy, who was arrested on the charge of a petty crime, was found hanging by a plastic rope.

However, his family alleges that he was murdered by the police.

"Even we feel that this is a custodial death prima facie, since we visited the place," they said.
