Odisha's state capital Bhubaneswar today celebrated its 67th foundation day with the call to make it green and clean.
A special function was organised near the foundation stone of the city in front of the State Legislative Assembly in the morning followed by a parade.
Odisha Assembly Speaker Niranjan Pujari offered flowers at the foundation stone and called upon the people to make the capital city green and keep it clean.
This was followed by a colourful parade by school children and cultural events in the evening.
It was on this day in 1948, when first Prime Minster Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of the city after it was planned by German architect Otto Konigsberger.
The population of the city, which was only 20,000 in 1948, has gone up by about 20 times and was 8,40,643 as per the 2011 Census, estimated to have crossed ten lakh at present.
