7.5 lakh bank accounts opened under PMJDY in Himachal

About 7.50 lakh bank accounts have been opened in Himachal Pradesh under the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) since August 2014.
During a meeting of State Level Banker's Committee here today, Chief Secretary P Mitra said that the state has done exceedingly well under PMJDY and 7.50 lakh accounts have been opened since implementation of the scheme in August, 2014.
The Chief Secretary also expressed satisfaction that the HP State Cooperative Bank had achieved scheduled bank status.
Principal Secretary, Finance Shrikant Baldi said that farmers and self help groups would be exempted from payment of stamp duty on mortgage deeds upto Rs 10 lakh whereas stamp duty and registration charges for mortgage to obtain education loan up to Rs 7.50 lakh would also be exempted.
Expressing concern over Non Performing Assets (NPAs) of banks in the state, he urged bankers to strengthen the credit monitoring system and take effective steps to recover the overdue loans with effective recovery measures.
