A group of seven persons have been booked for allegedly mowing down members of an anti-cow slaughter outfit in Bhiwandi area here, police said today.
Activists of Bharatiya Gowansh Sanrakshan Parishad, headed by Yatindra Jain (28), had received a message on June 9 about cattle being brought into the city for slaughtering, an officer from Nizampura police station in Bhiwandi city said.
On the tipoff, nearly four to five activists kept a vigil near Vanjarpatti flyover. As soon as they spotted a vehicle at around 6.30 AM, suspected to be carrying cattle, they tried to intercept it.
As per the complaint by Jain, the four-wheeler dashed into the vehicle carrying him and others, police said.
The accused have been identified as Sabu, Annu, Saza, Gappu while three others are yet to be identified. No arrest has been made so far, they said.
A case has been registered under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage) and relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
