Seven houses were completely gutted and some others partially damaged after a devastating fire broke out today in Sarahan area of Chopal, about 120 km from here, police said.
Around 18 families were rendered shelterless in the incident, the police said, adding no casualty was reported.
Locals said that the fire broke out in a house in Sarahan village and engulfed the adjoining house within no time and sky high flames were seen from long distance.
The fire tenders could not reach the spot immediately as the houses were located 350 feet above the road and pressure of water was low, the police said.
As soon as we got a call, the fire tenders were rushed to the spot. After encountering some problems due to narrow road in the congested area ,the operations started and the fire was extinguished SDM Chopal Mukesh Repaswal said.
The villagers tried to douse the flames but heavily timbered houses were reducedto ashes. Fortunately, the inmates were able to come out of their houses, the police said.

Ten affected families with total loss of property were given Rs 20,000 as immediate relief while eight families who suffered partial loss were given Rs 5000 each, the SDM said.
Arrangements for providing shelter to the affected families have been made in theSarai of a temple trust, he added.
