There was, however, no casualty.
"We received a call around 6 AM and 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was doused around 8.30 AM... Seven shops, including a footwear stall, were gutted in the fire. There was no casualty," a senior official from Delhi Fire Services said.
Police said the fire was plotted by Vikas, who owns a shop in the area, in order to settle score with another shopkeeper, Hitesh, with whom he had a quarrel over keeping goods outside his shop.
Vikas' role emerged during investigation as a few persons had seen him setting fire to the shop, he added.
