The students belonged to two primary schools located in Chandrawatiganj, around 45 kms from here.
"Around 70 students of two primary schools in Chandrawatiganj in the district started suffering from dizziness, nausea and stomach ache after consuming flavoured milk provided under the mid-day meal scheme. The affected students were between the age group of five and eleven years," Dr Prayank Mandloi, chief of Chandravatiganj Primary Health Care Centre, told PTI.
Meanwhile, District Collector P Narhari said, "During our preliminary probe, we have found out that both the schools used contaminated water to make the flavoured milk."
He said further investigation into the case is on and action would be taken against the guilty.
A senior official of Women and Child Welfare Department said that the flavoured milk was prepared from the powder of 'Sanchi' brand of Madhya Pradesh Dairy Federation.
According to the official, the state government had introduced flavoured milk as part of mid-day meal in primary schools and anganwadi centres about a month ago.
