A 71-year old man died here today after a wall of a toilet at Patna junction collapsed on him, a railway official said.

The man, identified as Veer Bahadur Singh, entered the toilet at the second-class passengers' waiting room this morning even when a display board outside stated that it was "under repair", Sanjay Prasad, the public relations officer of Danapur railway division, said.

The septuagenarian, a resident of Vushunpur village in Bihar's Vaishali district, was supposed to catch a train from Patna to Howrah in neighbouring West Bengal, he said.

"The toilet at the second-class waiting hall has been closed for use owing to the repair work that began day before yesterday. The doors were accordingly removed to prevent people from using it," the PRO said, adding that he was shocked to find out that Singh tried to use the washroom despite the warnings displayed outside it.

The PRO also said that junior engineer Ashok Kumar, has been put under suspension following the wall collapse.

"A probe has been initiated into the incident and the railway department has decided to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 15,000 to the deceased's family.
