72 encroachers held in Manas

A group of 72 encroachers in Manas National Park were taken into custody today when they were about to construct shelters inside the park in Assam's Barpeta district, a forest official said.
The encroachers were setting up their shelters at Kahitema beat under Bansbari Range in the Park by bringing people from other places for making houses and encroach forest land, said Hiranya Sarma, Project Director Manas Tiger project.
Manas National Park authorities with the help of police from Barpeta Road were able to stop the encroachers, Sarma said.
