Union Minister M M Pallam Raju today praised the education system of Jammu and Kashmir, saying 76 per cent of children between 6 to 14 years are presently enrolled in schools in the state.
"As many as 76 per cent of children of the age group of 6 to 14 years are presently enrolled in schools in Jammu and Kashmir, which is an encouraging trend," the Union Minister for Human Resource Development said.
He was addressing a function after laying the foundation stone of Central University of Kashmir with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here.
Technical education and skill development have been recognised as thrust areas and 'Young India' is being nurtured in these fields to become global leaders, he said.
"Centre is also assisting Jammu and Kashmir to upgrade skills and impart technical education to the youth to enhance their employability," he said adding, "We want Jammu and Kashmir to become a knowledge hub and that is why National Institute of Technology has come to the state and 11 universities are already here."
"I want to have this university here as soon as possible. Today there are 40 Central universities in the country. This is a beautiful place and the university at this place will attract international faculty," he said.
"And when international faculty comes here, international quality research will take place benefiting students," he said.
