8,100 acres acquired for new AP capital city

Andhra Pradesh Government today said about 8,100 acres of land has been acquired from farmers for construction of a new capital city.
As per the Government plan unveiled late last year, 17 villages in the existing Guntur district will be developed into a new capital city, which will be spread across 30,000 acres and located on the southern side of Krishna river.
P Narayana, Minister for Municipal Administration, said about 8,100 acres of land has been acquired till yesterday from farmers for the capital project.
The Government target is to acquire about 15,000 to 18,000 acres of land by February 10, said Narayana, who is also Vice-Chairman, Capital Region Development Authority, which is overseeing the ambitious project.

The Minister was here to conduct awareness camps for farmers on land acquisition.
Narayana said the TDP-led Government has decided to waive crop loan for all farmers who have surrendered their lands for the project to the extent of Rs 1.50 lakh.
After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh last year, Hyderabad has become the capital of Telangana. Andhra Pradesh can use Hyderabad as its capital for ten years.
