The by-poll was necessitated after seven legislators resigned from the membership to the two Autonomous District Councils last year following the state government passing a law preventing them to hold two elected offices.
Six of the candidates were from the regional parties while one is an independent candidate and the other a congress candidate, they said.
Three candidates from the Hills State People's Democratic Party contesting from Laban, Nongspung-Sohiong and Nongkrem constituencies filed their nomination papers yesterday while four others filed papers today, Returning Officer for East Khasi Hills district P S Dkhar said.
Meanwhile, three others filed their nomination papers today, one of whom a UDP candidate and a former chief executive member in the KHADC.

H S Shylla, a former CEM, filed his nomination papers from Nongkrem constituency in East Khasi Hills district along with Lamborsing Nongrum of the INC.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills District magistrate has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting carrying of arms by any person.
The order also directs all the Arms license holders of the three constituencies to deposit their weapons at the respective Police Stations and Out Posts for safe custody.
