Eight persons were arrested today in connection with the killing of a youth leader of the ruling BJD in Odisha's Dhenkanal district 11 days ago, police today said.
While two of the accused were picked up from West Bengal, the rest were nabbed from Talcher and Begunia areas of Odisha, Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police Santosh Nayak said.
Efforts are on to nab four others in connection with the gunning down of Jasobanta Parida, who was Biju Yuva Janata Dals Dhenkanal district unit president, on March 26, he said.
Business rivalry was suspected to have led to the killing, the SP said.
Parida was travelling in a car when the accused intercepted his vehicle and mounted an attack at Kamakhyana in the district, police said.
The attackers, who came in an SUV, first hurled bombs at the car in which Parida was travelling near Gandhi Mandir on Hospital Road. They fired several rounds after the youth leader alighted from the vehicle in a bid to escape, causing serious injuries to Parida.
