Eight policemen were today injured, three of them seriously, when the roof of a building at the police lines collapsed here in Saran district of Bihar.
Saran SP Satyaveer Singh said there is a possibility that rain water seeped through the roof, weakening it, and it finally collapsed upon a false ceiling beneath as the debris came crashing down upon the policemen present inside the structure.
"Eight policemen have suffered injuries. Three of them have fractures and head injures. They have been taken to hospital and all of them are out of danger," Singh said.
He said that the police lines building was very old and had a thatched roof covered by terracotta tiles under which a false ceiling had been constructed.
"There is a possibility that rain water seeped through the roof, weakening the structure and finally bringing it down. The false ceiling obstructed the people from ascertaining its condition from beneath. We have ordered a probe into it," the SP said.
