Eight suspected robbers were lynched and four others injured today by an angry mob at the outskirts of the Bangladesh's capital after they broke into a rice depot of a village market, police said.
"We recovered seven bodies from the scene early today and sent four other suspected robbers to the (local) Araihazar health complex with critical wounds," a police officer told PTI.
Another person died later in the day, taking the total number of deceased to eight.
The officer said residents of the neighbourhood raised an alarm using a megaphone as the robbers came in a truck and broke into the rice warehouse late last night and began to load the rice sacks in the vehicle.
"The villagers encircled the marketplace and caught the robbers...Four of them appeared to have died instantly," official said.
The mob, he said, threw the bodies into a pond from where the police recovered them and those injured have been sent to hospital.
