West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today targeted the Election Commission, saying law and order is now under the poll panel and eight party workers had been killed in the last seven days.
"The police is under Election Commission. Now the Election Commission looks after law and order. Eight TMC workers were killed in last seven days by CPI(M)," she told an election meeting at Lalgarh in West Midnapore district which was earlier affected by Maoist violence.
"Every day they are killing (our party workers). Who gave them the right to kill? We will not tolerate killing. There is no place for political vendetta in Bengal," she said.
Banerjee asked her partymen not to be scared and work for the upcoming Assembly polls with the support of public.
"Don't get afraid if somebody comes from outside and scare you. They will go back after three days. Do the election (work) with the support of the people," the TMC supremo said, in an indirect reference to the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata, TMC vice-president Mukul Roy said the onus of maintaining law and order was in the hands of the Election Commission during poll time and as such the EC needs to increase the voter confidence level.

"Six of our workers have been killed. They need to increase voter confidence levels. One of our offices has also been burnt," he alleged.
He threatened that next time if there was a murder again they would bring the dead body to the CEO's office.
He claimed that no worker of other parties had died in this election season.

Banerjee accused the CPI(M) of spreading rumours against her and claimed that 55,000 political killings had taken place during the 34-year rule of the Left Front.
Alleging that TMC workers were getting killed by the CPI(M), she said, "There was no place for political vendetta in Bengal."
"Don't be afraid of the dirty campaign by CPI(M) along with Congress and BJP. They won't be able to defeat us and that is why they are resorting to spreading canards against us. But they won't be successful. People are with us," she said.
Banerjee challenged rival parties to fight Trinamool Congress "politically" and said otherwise their "dirty campaign would boomerang" on them.
"People will give the opposition a fitting reply in the Assembly elections beginning from April 4," she said.
She said peace has returned to Jangalmahal, which was a battlefield during the tenure of the previous Left Front government.
"I love Jangalmahal. I like development in the area and welfare of the people living here. It's my government which brought the Maoists into mainstream. In future people will say let's go to Jangalmahal - instead of London or USA. I will come to Jangalmahal a thousand times," she said.
Listing the development works initiated by her government, Banerjee said she had done the work of "400 years" in four years and claimed that in the last four years, there was no killing or bloodshed in the entire Jangalmahal area.
