At least eight workers, including five women, sustained serious burn injuries today when a garment factory caught fire Pakistan's business capital.
According to the Fire Brigade authorities, at least ten vehicles are in the process of extinguishing the fire. The authorities have declared a third-degree fire in the factory.
"It appears as if the fire was caused by short circuiting in the factory but that needs to be investigated. The fire has spread and we have a dozen fire engines trying to control it," said Ehteshamuddin, the chief fireman of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Eight workers, including five women, sustained serious burn injuries in the accident.
In 2012, a deadly fire at the Ali Garments factory in Baldia town claimed around 260 lives and is considered to be the worst industrial disaster in Pakistan.
