80,000 families affected due to recent quake in J-K

The recent earthquake in Doda region of Jammu and Kashmir damaged public infrastructure worth Rs 100 crore as over 80,000 families were affected by the natural disaster.
The losses to public infrastructure have been assessed to the tune of nearly Rs 100 crore with major damage reported in Doda district where public infrastructure worth Rs 89.10 crore has been damaged, an official spokesman said after a review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary M I Khanday here.
The spokesman said over 80,000 families, mostly in Doda and Kishtwar districts, have been affected due to the May 1 earthquake and the aftershocks.
The State Executive Committee headed by the Chief Secretary reviewed the relief and rehabilitation efforts underway in the earthquake affected districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban.
Deputy Commissioners of the affected districts via video link presented the latest assessment reports and informed the committee about the relief and restoration works being carried out in response to the calamity, the spokesman said.
Khanday asked the divisional and district administration to extend relief to all affected families in the form of shelter, tents and free ration along with carrying out immediate temporary restoration works of damaged public infrastructure.
