"Between March 15 and May 9, 729 murders, 803 rapes, 799 loots, 2,682 kidnappings and 60 dacoities took place," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said during the Question Hour.
The issue was raised by Samajwadi Party member Shailendra Yadav Lalai who sought crime data in the specified period and action taken to curb it.
The minister said that action has been taken in 67.16 per cent of murder cases as also in 71.12 per cent cases of rape and 52.23 per cent of kidnapping.
"Besides, in these registered cases, NSA (the National Security Act) was invoked against three accused, 126 were booked under the Gangsters Act and 131 under the Goonda Act," the minister said.

SP member Parasnath Yadav sought to know the comparative data from the corresponding period in previous years but it was not available with the minister.
"Our government is committed to check crime and whosoever flouts law will be dealt with strictly. In the earlier regime, case was not registered. Our government is even registering FIR in minor crimes," the minister said, explaining the reason behind the crime data.
Congress Legislature Party leader Ajay Kumar Lallu wanted to ask some question but could not be heard amidst the din.
"The voice of the opposition cannot be suppressed with brute majority," Lallu said as he also walked out with the party members.
