81-year-old man arrested for allegedly killing his aged wife

An 81-year-old retired LIC officer who allegedly beat his aged wife to death was arrested by the Thane city police today, the police said tonight.
Police inspector M V Dharmadhikari of the Kasarwadavali police station told PTI that Umakant K Sule resided with his wife Pushpa (74) in the Cosmos Regency housing complex on the Ghodbunder road.
Both husband and wife were not keeping well due to ailments. They used to pick quarrel over petty issues and in a fit of anger, the old man attacked his wife with a log of wood, inflicting a couple of blows due to which she died, the police said.
The incident happened at around 9 am at their residence, the police said.
The old man called up the police station minutes after killing his wife and reported the murder.
The police took away his wife's body for postmortem to the civil hospital.
The old man was arrested, charged under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and produced in court, which remanded him to judicial custody for four days, the police said.
