851 buses sanctioned for Assam, Chhattisgarh under JNNURM

851 buses have been sanctioned by the Urban Development Ministry for Assam and Chhattisgarh under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme.
The buses are sanctioned for plying in Guwahati and 21 clusters of Chhattisgarh under the scheme, a senior Urban Development Ministry official said.
The approval was given at a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee on functioning of buses and ancillary infrastructure projects under JNNURM held here recently.
Out of total 851, 400 buses have been sanctioned for Guwahati at a total estimated cost of Rs 191 crore with a 90 per cent central government share of Rs 171.90 crore.
The meeting also approved ancillary infrastructure, including upgradation of existing terminals, development of new depots and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure for Guwahati at an estimated cost of Rs 22.31 crore with central share of Rs 20 crore.
A total of 451 buses as well as ancillary infrastructure were also approved in the CSMC meeting for 21 clusters of Chhattisgarh. Out of these, the highest number of 110 buses have been sanctioned for Bhilai-Durg cluster, 60 buses have been approved for Raipur cluster, 50 for Bilaspur cluster, 48 for Korba cluster and 35 for Ambikapur cluster, among others.

Approval was also given for ancillary infrastructure like depots, workshops, and ITS for these 21 clusters at an estimated cost of Rs 28.47 crore with a central share of Rs 18.44 crore.
These buses have been approved subject to conditions like setting up of city-specific SPVs, ensuring availability of adequate land for depots/workshops, proof of tying up with financial intermediary, undertaking of state government regarding operational losses, legal notification of urban agglomeration/Local Planning Area among others.
The Centre will sanction 10,000 buses to states in the current financial year.
