869 KP families still living in Kashmir Valley: J-K govt

Jammu and Kashmir government today said that 869 families of Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) are still residing in Kashmir Valley whereas 40,857 such families have migrated out since the rise of militancy in the state.
"As many as 869 KP families are still residing in Kashmir Valley, wherefrom 40,857 families have migrated," Minister of State for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, today told the Legislative Council in a written reply.
He was responding to a question by Congress member Ravinder Kumar Sharma.
Giving the break up, he said that the highest number of 273 families are residents of summer capital Srinagar followed by 158 families in Anantnag district.
While 133 KP families continue to live in Pulwama, 77 such families have stayed on in Kulgam district followed by 75 in Shopian, 41 each in Baramulla and Budgam, 32 in Ganderbal, 30 in Bandipura and nine in Kupwara district.
