The new scheme - Atal School Uniform Yojna- envisages provision of school uniform for all students studying in Classes 1 to 10 of all government schools in the state from the new academic session.

The scheme would be launched by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and BJP president Nitin Gadkari at a government school in Nahan in Sirmaur district of the state tomorrow.

It will cost the state government a total of Rs 60 crore annually. Dhumal said it will help check school dropouts and ensure further enrolment of children as parents who could not afford uniforms would now be able to send their children to school.

As per the scheme, while boys will wear light blue shirt and light grey pant, girl students would wear red and white check shirt alongwith white salwar and white dupatta.

A total of 9,27,205 students, including 4,63,525 girls would benefit from the scheme. All the uniforms would be provided by the respective education department office.

The government has also formed a committee headed by the additional chief secretary with Principal Secretaries of Education, Finance, Industry and Food and Civil Supplies as its members, to look into effective implementation of the scheme.
