As many as 9,437 persons requiring surgery for cataract have been identified by the administration in Koraput district.
The identification was done during special camps held across the district on March 15 and 16 and their names were registered, officials said today.
"We had organised preliminary eye testing camps in all the 14 block headquarters and four urban areas of the district to identify people who need surgery for cataract. ASHA and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) workers were trained to conduct preliminary eye tests at the special camps", said Koraput district Collector Jaya Kumar V.
The registered cases have been referred to the block headquarters hospital where they will be operated on free of cost, the Collector said.
