9,600 bottles of smuggled liquor seized

The Excise Department today seized 9,600 bottles of liquor, worth Rs 32 lakh, from a truck in Loni while the consignment was being smuggled into Uttar Pradesh from Haryana.
"Based on a tip-off, excise officials apprehended the truck carrying the consignment in around 800 boxes," Assistant Commissioner of Excise DN Singh said.
Although officials managed to arrest the driver of the truck, his two accomplices managed to flee.
A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the driver and the vehicle has been impounded.
