9 Maoists arrested in Nepal for organising anti-India bandh

Nine cadres of the hardliner CPN-Maoist party were arrested today in Nepal for enforcing a strike in Chitawan district to oppose Indian Ambassador's visit to the area to inaugurate a college building constructed with India's assistance.
The CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Vaidya had announced the bandh, citing Ambassador Ranjit Rae's visit, who was going to inaugurate the newly constructed building.
The CPN-Maoist cadres were demanding that the inauguration should be held by Nepalese officials.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shantiraj Koirala, seven cadres of CPN-Maoist were arrested from Ratnanagar area and two from Narayangadh.
The building was constructed by Indian government seven years ago at a cost of NRs 9.6 million.
Despite the strike announced by the Maoist cadres, Rae inaugurated the college building constructed under Nepal- India Economic Cooperation Programme.

The new college building constructed with Indian assistance will help to create better facilities for over 500 students, about 55 per cent of whom are girls.
In addition to the college, two projects have been completed with Indian assistance of NRs 43.9 million and work is also going on four development projects with Indian assistance of NRs 125 million in Chitwan District.
India has also provided eleven ambulances, one school bus and a Hydraulic Excavator for use in the district.
Underlining the importance of strengthening of educational infrastructure for Nepal's overall development, Rae in his address, expressed the hope that the various educational projects being completed under the Nepal - India Economic Cooperation Programme will help the people of Nepal in their quest towards peace and prosperity.
