11 militants were arrested while 10 houses and 20 shelters belonging to militants were destroyed in the military raids, the source said yesterday.
During the raid, the militants tried to attack the army with a rocket-propelled grenade, which led to the injury of two policemen.
North Sinai has been the scene of many violent attacks by Islamists since the January 2011 revolution that toppled Egyptian strongman Hosni Mubarak.
Islamist militant attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of president Mohammed Morsi last year.
The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
