The Shamli district police today claimed to have seized 915 cartons of liquor believed to be meant for distribution for the May 28 Kairana Lok Sabha bypoll in Uttar Pradesh.
The liquor was being smuggled into the state from Haryana in a truck that was intercepted by a police team, Circle Officer (CO) Rajesh Tiwari said.
One person has been arrested and during his interrogation, it was learnt that the liquor was meant for distribution for the bypoll, the officer said.
The seized liquor is worth Rs 50 lakhs. The matter is being investigated, police said.
