Police seized 970 kilograms of cannabis, estimated to be worth Rs 40 lakh, from an ambulance in Chhattisgarh's Korba district.
"The seizure of 970 kilograms of cannabis worth Rs 40 lakh was made on Saturday from an ambulance in Katghora area on Korba-Bilaspur road," Korba Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore said today.
"We had laid a trap but the ambulance driver tried to speed past. We gave chase and the driver left the vehicle near Sindhiya village and fled. The contraband was packed in 36 sacks," he said.
"A fake Chhattisgarh registration number was pasted on the plate which bore an Andhra Pradesh number. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway," he said.
