98 per cent crimes detected in Erode district: IGP

A whopping 98 per cent of crimes registered in the district during this year had been detected, a top police official said today.
"The crime prevention and detection in Erode district is high when compared to other districts in the zone," IGP (West Zone) Davidson Devasirvatham told reporters here.
The zone comprises Erode, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.
He said that of the 421 crimes registered in the district during 2013, the property lost was Rs 2.43 crore and of this Rs 2.22 crore worth had been recovered, which worked out to a recovery rate of around 93 per cent, he said.
Last year, the recovery was 81 per cent. Last year of the 522 cases registered 429 cases were detected.
During the current year, ten murders for gain, 29 murders, 39 robbery and 76 house breaks and 274 ordinary thefts were reported and 98 per cent of them were detected, he added.

Police have detained 30 persons under Goondas Act and four others under the Bootleggers Act for prohibition cases.
One person was detained under National Security Act for his anti-social activities.
Last year, a total of 18 persons were detained under the Goondas Act and nine detained under Bootleggers Act, District SP R. Ponni, who was also present, said.
On the occastion, a weaver Samiyappan of Arachalure was honoured by the IGP for handing over to police a bag containig Rs 6.63 lakh cash which he had found on a road on December 31, 2012.
