Jazz maestro legend Derek Julian and Indo-American saxophonist-composer Rudhresh Mahanthappa, renowned for fusing progressive jazz with south Indian classical music are among this year's Jazz Utsav that begins here tomorrow..
The two-day festival, which is its 31st edition this year is set to open with the theme 'Past, Present and Future of Jazz' complete with a line up that indicatively brings young talent and veteran artists of Jazz music on the same stage.
The event has been carrying on the legacy of bringing jazz music from around the globe to Delhi audience since 1978.
Pianist Joel Lyssarides from Sweden, the Arthur Dutkiewicz Trio from Poland, Karim Ellaboudi with Vasundhara and The Woodstock Jazz Band of students from Mussoorie are also performing at the festival.
"This year's festival is special. We have the best of Indian jazz with the amazing guitar of Derek Julien. Women are well represented. If you haven't heard Kittu Sequeira or Vasundhara Vidalur it's time you did so at Jazz this year," organiser Astri Ghose said.
"And if you wonder what the future holds for Indian jazz, see the talented young girls and boys in the Woodstock jazz," Ghose said.
