Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to visit tomorrow a small hamlet in East Khasi Hills district, where he had facilitated the setting up of a refugee camp during his country's liberation war, a govt official said here today.
His wife, Rashida Khanam, and other dignitaries from the neighbouring country will be accompanying him, East Khasi Hills district deputy commissioner P S Dkhar said.
"The President is set to visit Balat village tomorrow. Balat is special for him as he was involved in setting up a refugee camp there 47 yeeas ago," Dkhar told PTI.
Hamid had once undergone training with the Indian Army in the East Khasi Hills district, a Bangladesh High Commission official said.
The Bangladesh President will also visit Laban Bidhan House in the state capital and the bungalow, where Tagore had stayed during his visit to Shillong, the official said.
Governor Ganga Prasad will host a state dinner for the president at the Raj Bhavan, where he will spend the night before leaving for Delhi the next day to attend the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Summit.
District authorities have beefed up security in and around the village to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the Bangladesh President's visit.
