Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray today met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and sought lifting of ban on quarries which he said is adversely affecting road works in the city.
Aaditya called on Fadnavis at his residence 'Varsha' here and sought his intervention in resolving the shortage of aggregate material for road works caused by shutdown of several quarries in Thane.
"The meet with the CM was to resolve the issue of ban on quarries that is affecting road works of the BMC. The chief minister gave a positive response which will make road works easier for the BMC," he later told reporters.
Pre-monsoon road repair works of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation came to a halt after several quarries were shutdown a week ago on Thane collector Mahendra Kalyankar's orders.
In a letter to the Thane collector on April 25, officials from the BMC roads department had requested that a few of these quarries be allowed to supply materials to contractors employed by the Mumbai civic body.
Kalyankar had given the shutdown order after quarry owners failed to comply with the norms of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board as well as the environment ministry.
