Superstar Aamir Khan today came out in support of FTII students protesting against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the institute, saying their grievances should be addressed.
The 50-year-old actor, who is here to begin shooting his latest project "Dangal", told reporters, "It is very unfortunate that students are protesting for their rights at an institute like FTII. The authorities need to listen their grievances thoroughly and understand what they are trying to say."
"Dangal" will begin shooting from September 22. Aamir, who has gained over 20kgs to play the role of a wrestler father, was also asked about the disparity between the payment to female and male actors in Bollywood.
"We are still living in a patriarchal society and male dominated mindsets," Aamir said, adding "Dangal" gives out the message about the importance of daughters and gender equality.
"Mahavir Singh Phogat (his character) makes his daughters wrestlers. We are always stuck into mentality of giving preference to sons. The film is about giving equal opportunities to daughters," said Aamir.
The film is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
