A Congress and an AAP leader today joined SAD in the presence of party chief and Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal here today.
Punjab AAP (Panchayat Cell) chief Hardev Singh Sayalu and Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Tanda joined the party today, a SAD release issued here said.
Former general secretary of Punjab Peoples Party, Tanda had contested assembly election unsuccessfully from Sanour constituency in 2012 and Sayalu has been working for the rights of the state's panchayat unions.
Sayalu and Tanda would be given full respect in the party and their services would be utilised in making SAD strong in Malwa region, he said, claiming many Opposition leaders were vying to join SAD.
"It is the result of rapid development and constructive policies during previous nine years that the Opposition is bereft of any issues and parties like Congress and AAP are abhorred by the people," Sukhbir claimed
Terming AAP a "bunch of psychologically ill people", Sayalu said, "Such people don't care to measure their words before speaking. Neither AAP respects Sikhs nor its leaders care for the sentiments of the community."
Alleging "infighting" had "demolished" Congress in Punjab, Tanda said, "After long observation it has come to fore that SAD was the only party, which could achieve greater development heights in time to come."
He said he was influenced by the people friendly policies of the Akali Dal and development initiatives accomplished under (Chief Minister) Parkash Singh Badal.
