The Delhi High Court Monday sought the city government's response on a plea filed by AAP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa, challenging the operation of jeans manufacturing and dying units in a residential area here which is part of his constituency.
A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V K Rao asked the Delhi government and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to file their counter affidavits to the plea by November 15, the next date of hearing.
Sirsa, in his plea filed through advocate S S Ahluwalia, has contended that the illegal industrial activity of manufacturing and dying jeans was going on in the Vishnu Garden area of west Delhi and no action has been taken despite complaints to the authorities by the residents of the area.
He has claimed that industrial activity is prohibited in residential areas according to a 2004 Supreme Court order in the M C Mehta case.
The petition has sought closure and removal of all industrial units and commercial shops operating in the area.
