Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has set up women's wing of its Delhi unit in order to attract female voters ahead of a possible assembly election in the national capital.
The announcement was made by party's National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on the occasion of the first death anniversary of AAP activist Santosh Koli, who was killed in a road accident ahead of last year's Delhi polls. Koli was to contest the polls on a AAP ticket.
Known as Aap Ki Mahila Shakti, the group will be headed by Shalimar Bag MLA Bandana Kumari.
"It has been decided to set up the units in all districts of Delhi and will be followed by a committee in all each of the 70 assembly segments of the national capital. A helpline number will soon be made public to help women in directly contacting the party unit.
"Through this wing we intend to connect with every woman of every household of the national capital," Kejriwal said, while addressing a rally at Sunder Nagri in North-east Delhi.
Meanwhile, many volunteers and top leaders of the party attended the rally organised to mark the first death anniversary of Koli.
