In the wake of ceasefire violations along the LOC by Pakistan, the Aam Aadmi Party today slammed Narendra Modi government's "inconsistent" policy towards the neighbouring nation.
The party also alleged that there might be a political design behind the initial extra warmth towards the ruling establishment of Pakistan by the Modi government, now giving way to sudden stern statements from the NDA government's top ministers.
"It has been noted that Narendra Modi government's policy towards Pakistan has been inconsistent. Several developments over the past four months have shown that the BJP government's moves have swung between extremes - from the so-called saree shawl diplomacy to the abrupt cancellation of foreign secretary-level talks.
"It is disappointing that these moves indicate lack of clarity in thought and the knee-jerk reactions do not augur well for the country's diplomacy," said a party spokesperson.
The party said the seriousness of the situation can be gauged by the appeal for calm by the United Nations Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-moon.
"The need of the hour is well thought out consensus within the country to deal sensibly with the situation, without falling in the trap of jingoism.
"There is already a reasonable apprehension that there might be a political design behind the initial extra warmth towards the ruling establishment of Pakistan, now giving way to sudden stern statements from the NDA government's top ministers," the spokesperson added.
The party demanded that the central government should immediately convene an all party meeting to apprise the country about what exactly is the situation along the border with Pakistan.
