Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Sukhpal Khaira today said the AAP will bring a resolution during the upcoming budget session to demand the implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations.
The commission's recommendations deals with measures to improve the state of agriculture and farmers in India. It submitted its final report in 2006 to the then UPA government and urged it to take steps to secure farmers' income to check the agrarian crisis and farmers' unrest across the country.
Speaking at a protest organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Sidhupur) in Sunam town, Khaira criticised Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for "cheating" farmers by making "false" promises on waiving their loans.
He claimed more than 360 farmers committed suicides in the state since Singh assumed office in March 2017.
Khaira promised the farmers the AAP would bring a resolution in the budget session, seeking the implementation of Swaminathan Committee recommendations of 50 per cent profit to farmers over and above input costs while fixing the minimum support prices for crops.
He also assured the farmers that his party will press the state government to completely waive their debt.
