The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has set a target of enrolling around 8 lakh volunteers who would visit over 6 crore households for door-to-door campaigning to replicate Delhi's success at the national level.
In a presentation to over 500 volunteers gathered for the party's National Council meeting here today, party leader Yogendra Yadav said AAP should set a target of having around 8 lakh volunteers in order to replicate the electoral success of Delhi in the Lok Sabha elections.
Yadav also observed that it was important to do active campaigning in about 3,000 assembly constituencies of the total 4,150 across the country.
"In order to ensure success in the Lok Sabha polls, we should contest on maximum seats," he said, without giving figures on how many seats the party will contest in the polls.
While claiming that AAP had got an overwhelming support in few states in the north, he said it needed to do a lot of work in other parts of the country where the response has been lukewarm.
"In areas like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh we have an overwhelming support, but a lot of work has to be done in states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal and Karnataka," Yadav said.
The party has also formed National Campaigning Committee to oversee elections affairs.
