Volunteers of Aam Aadmi Party today protested outside national headquarters of BJP at Ashoka Road here against the alleged assault of its Dalit councillor Rakesh Kumar by BJP councillors.

The demonstration was attended by AAP MLAs as well.

Addressing the protesters on the occasion, the Convener of the SC/ST wing of the party MLA Rajendra Gautam alleged, "BJP has a completely anti-Dalit mindset and it has shown it time and again. BJP always wants the society to divided along the lines of caste and religion.

"By hurting the sentiments of the Dalit community BJP has further proved its anti-Dalit mindset," he claimed.

AAP has also approached the National Commission for Schedule Castes to take action against those responsible for the incident.

On June 9, Kumar, an AAP councillor, was allegedly assaulted by BJP members at a "joint session" of three BJP-ruled municipal corporations which passed a resolution slamming the Arvind Kejriwal government for "not giving" funds to the civic bodies.
