Addressing the programme, AASU chief adviser Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya spoke about the alleged indifference of the state and central governments towards the long pending demand for proper implementation of the accord which was signed in 1985 ending the anti-foreigners agitation in the state.
At the programme attended by about 27 organisations, he said, "The indigenous people's right must be given priority in Assam. We cannot allow anybody to make Assam a land for foreigners."
Demanding deportation of every foreigner who had come illegally to the state after March 24, 1971, Bhattacharya said during the six year long Assam agitation 855 people had sacrificed their lives for the cause of Assamese.
"But it is a matter of serious concern that despite passage of 30 years of the Accord, not a single government sitting in the state and Centre has been seen giving priority to settling the issue," the AASU leader claimed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had told poll rallies in Assam that on coming to power it would deport the illegal Bangladeshis within 24 hours of formation of their government, he said.
"But instead of doing that they have done all sorts of things to give land of Assam to Bangladesh. Now they are even neglecting the historic Assam accord. The same government is giving notification for accepting illegal Bangladeshis on the basis of religion," he alleged.
