ABG Shipyard delivers oceanographic research ship to CSIR-NIO
Press Trust of India Mumbai Country's largest private shipbuilder ABG Shipyard today said it has delivered the first indigenously built oceanographic research vessel, RV Sindhu Sadhana, to CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO).
The vessel, which was delivered in Goa, has a crew of 28 and can accommodate a team of 29 scientists.
RV Sindhu Sadhana is designed for worldwide sub-sea operations and is one of the most sophisticated and advanced research vessels in the world, ABG Shipyard said.
Measuring 80 meters in length and having a GRT (gross register tonnage) of 4,154 T, the vessel's detailed design was undertaken in-house and it has the capabilities to operate in extreme environmental conditions and undertake complex research activities at water depths of up to 6,000 meters, it said.
ABG Shipyard chairman Rishi Agarwal said that the firm would be delivering more such specialised vessels. It is also building a diving support vessel for Halul Offshore (Qatar), three cadet training Ships for the Indian Navy and pollution control vessel for the Indian Coast Guard.
