Punjab police today provided protection to the family of Bhim Sain who was murdered allegedly by the henchmen of liquor baron and Akali leader Shiv Lal Doda.
"We have deputed three cops led by an ASI at the house of Bhim (in Abohar) who will provide 24-hour protection to them," DIG Ferozepur Range Amar Singh Chahal said this evening.
However, he said the family of Gurjant Singh Janta, who was seriously injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment at Amritsar hospital, has refused to take police protection.
Yesterday, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had asked Punjab Police to provide security to the family members of Sain and Janta who were allegedly attacked on December 11 by Shiv Lal's henchmen.
Meanwhile, the DIG said Shiv Lal, who has been booked for murder conspiracy in this case, continued to remain elusive.
"We are trying to trace him (Shiv Lal)," he said.
