Adding to the woes of farmers here, about two dozen animals have died in Badhota village after feeding on crops which were damaged after unseasonal rains in the state.
Chief Veterinary Officer S K Malik said information was received that 21 sheep and a goat died in the village.
After investigation, Principal Scientist Central Institute for Research on Goats (CIRG), Shoorveer Singh, said the animals had died after consuming rotten grains.
Singh, through the chief veterinary officer, asked the farmers to not feed spoilt crops to the livestock and said they should not be sent out in the fields for grazing as it may cause Ruminal Acidosis, a digestive disorder.
Singh said after the death of animals a camp was set up to treat the remaining 169 sheep and 9 goats in the village.
