ABVP announces poll agenda; women safety among top issues

Safety of women inside university's campus is one of the many issues with which Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organisation of Delhi University, will be going to the upcoming students union elections.
Hostel facility for outstation students, improved infrastructure across all colleges, concessional passes for students in Delhi Metro are other focus areas for this poll, ABVP announced today.
"As for women security, we have consistently demanded that there should be sufficient female police guards on campus as well as there should be CCTV's should installed in most of the points of campus.
"All the issues concerning eve-teasing and other forms of violence against women should be dealt on priority basis and also should be dealt with promptly at judiciary level," ABVP Delhi State secretary Saket Bahuguna said.
Besides, U-special buses from all parts of NCR, Room-rent Control Act, affordable food at college canteens figured prominently in the ABVP's poll agenda.
"We will force the Delhi government to implement Room-Rent Control Act, as we see there are exorbitant rent is charged from students who come from various parts of the country to study here," Bahuguna said.
"We will fight for adequate U-special buses for all parts of Delhi and NCR because a large chunk of student travels from places like Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad to university," he added.
Raising concern over the treatment of north eastern students, Chahal said, "Students from north-east should be provided with a secure atmosphere. Hostels should be made available to them and especially to the female students.
