A dawn-to-dusk Palamu bandh called by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today in protest against the police lathi-charge on students passed off peacefully barring sporadic incidents of violence in the district.
All educational institutions, business establishments, shop and markets downed their shutters as hundreds of ABVP activists took to the streets to enforce the bandh.
The bandh was called in protest against the police lathi-charge on students, who were protesting in support of their 11-point charter of demands related to the prevailing education system in the Nilambar Pitambar University on Wednesday last.
Around 14 students sustained injuries when the police resorted to cane-charge to disperse the students.
Bandh supporters had put up road blocks at Dr Rajendra Prasad roundabout and set ablaze tyres to block the traffic.
Window panes of a few vehicles were reportedly damaged during the bandh.
The Deputy Commissioner of Palamu, K N Jha, said the bandh was by and large peaceful with no incident of violence reported from any part of the district.
