Scores of students today took out a protest rally in North campus of Delhi University, demanding a "room rent control act" to facilitate affordable accommodation for students in absence of adequate hostel facilities in colleges.
"Not all students get on campus hostel seats, which are limited. The private accommodations are pricey, hence we are demanding a 'room rent control act' for affordable lodgings at least in near by areas of the university," ABVP national secretary Rohit Chahal, who was part of the protest, said.
The protesters also demanded better transport facility for students and said that only half of the 36 DTC buses deployed for this purpose were operating.
"Since majority students travel by metro, we are also raising the issue of granting metro travel passes on lines of DTC passes to students," he added.
Students' wings of various political parties have been very active ahead of students' union elections of Delhi University, scheduled to be held on September 12.
