Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths arrested a Zilla Parishad primary education department official yesterday afternoon while he was accepting a Rs 23,000 bribe from the manager of a Pusad-based primary school.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB) Satish Deshmukh, the accused Suresh Gulabrao Nikam works for the Yavatmal Zilla Parishad education department as an extension officer.
The management of the Pusad-based Manoharrao Naik Primary School had approached Nikam to get approval for the institution, the police official said.
Nikam assured that he would get the school approval from the Education Officer if he was paid Rs 23,000 as a bribe, the police official said, adding that the school management lodged a complaint with the ACB.
As determined between the school management and the accused, the money was exchanged in front of the Yavatmal Panchayat Samiti office, even as waiting ACB sleuths arrested Nikam as well as a middleman Raju Onkar Gore with the marked currency notes.
"We have arrested Nikam and Gore after registering a criminal offence under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. They have been handed over to the Wadgaon Road police for further investigation," the police official said.
