ACB catches cop red handed while accepting bribe money
Press Trust of India Yavatmal The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a cop attached to the Wani police station red handed on Tuesday while he allegedly accepted a Rs 30,000 bribe from a complainant for absolving him from charges of stealing a transformer in the neighbouring district of Adilabad in Andhra Pradesh.
The action was taken after a complaint was received against Assistant Police Inspector (ASI) wearing buckle number 1048 attached to the Wani police station, Yavatmal's ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Deshmukh said.
A trap was laid in the house of the accused cop Syed Jahruddin Syed Bahruddin on Tuesday and the complainant was sent to the accused with the bribe amount of Rs 30,000. He was caught red handed while accepting the bribe money.
"There was an FIR against the complainant in a police station in Adilabad district of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh alleging that he had stolen a transformer," Deshmukh said, adding that the accused cop allegedly assured the complainant that he would be absolved from the theft case and not handed over him to the Adilabad police, if the complainant gave the accused, a sum of Rs 30,000.
The complainant agreed pay off the accused cop and lodged a complaint with the Yavatmal unit of the ACB.
"We laid the trap in the house of the accused and arrested him under Section 7 (13) 1 (D) read with Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, while accepting the bribe money," Deshmukh said.
Investigation is on at the Wani police station where the FIR was filed by the ACB.
